Affiliate Sales by using Smart Url’s

June 10, 2008

Many of your competitors including you, are possibly promoting the exact same program or product, in the exact same market or in some cases, on the exact same websites. Now here are some tips that you may consider in order for you to stay in this business and have a chance to outwit and out play the average affiliate marketer.

affiliate wealth
Affiliate marketers first need to get rid of that ugly affiliate url or hop link. There will be times when they want to simply tell somebody what the url to your affiliate site is. Your affiliate url will likely look something like this, http://unselfishwealth.com/?id=2932 Who will remember that?

home business
Although this affiliate url looks better than most I’ve seen it is still very apparent that this is an affiliate ID and not a personal site. There are a couple of things that can be done to change the appearance of this url. This first is to use a redirect service like http://tinyurl.com. This same affiliate url would look like this. http://tinyurl.com/4zhr7r

The example above is a good place to start, however, most people know when they see a tiny url or a similar url redirect service that the author is hiding something. The next thing the reader may think is that this was written by a newbie or someone who was in a big hurry and may not be dedicated to this product or program.

If the affiliate can afford $10 or less he should get his own domain name for what ever particular program or product he is promoting. This can be done at any domain registrar. I personally use namecheap.com or Techkat.net. Others will use godaddy.com. If you do not know, just search for domain names in google and have a look around.

smart url’s
When you get the new url you can have it forwarded to your affiliate account. Before you do this, read the TOS of the program or product to assure whether or not you can use the product or program name in your new domain name. Your new domain name will then look something like this. http://getunselfishwealth.com

The above example looks much more professional and not like the typical affiliate that may be spamming to you day in and day out. This link will not usually break in email and looks like it may even be a personally owned site.

The last piece of information for the new domain name url is that it should be masked. What that means is that the tool bar in your visitors browser should still show the new url that was typed or clicked into the browser and not revert back to the affiliate url. You will loose sales and sign-ups if you do not do this.
