Where do you Start?

I have often heard it said that you tell and friend and then friend tells a friends and pretty soon you have a network of people that know about your business. My question is where do you start? What one person is going to be the right target audience for my product? Does it really matter where you start or should you really refine your group of people to only those that may have the capital to improve your business? I am sure I will soon the knack of network marketingbut the first step seems to be the hardest.
