One of the main challenges most distributors face is not exposing enough people to their business. Effective marketing requires positioning your message in front of your target market, and giving them exactly what they want.

One such method is telemarketing of MLM Genealogy Leads

This approach is highly targeted since the people on these lists have already proven to be at one time interested in network marketing, they have at least a basic understanding of how the compensation plans work, and they at one time had a small spark or desire to create an additional income.

The problem with these systems are they way over priced, and you can get the same thing done for way less… especially if all you want to do is leave a voice mail message. I’ve been holding off writing about search engine optimization for generating leads for your MLM business, since it takes a bit of time to first learn what’s involved, and then secondly to apply what you’ve learned. It’s not for the faint of heart. We’re talking about a long term strategy here, but in all honesty, it works remarkably well.

For example, I have a lead capture page that I put up a couple of years ago that is optimized for keywords around “xango“. I’m on the first page of google for this, and as a result when people search for xango, presumably they are looking for information about either the products or the business.

In either case it’s good for me. I generate between 5 and 15 leads a day from this free traffic, and they are all exclusive to me.

Now, it’s also true that I get a lot of people that are already Xango distributors that request information, basically checking out what other people are doing, most people have heard of our company, and actively searching.

So, if your company has a decent amount of buzz surrounding it, this strategy may work well for you as well. I don’t have the time to go into details here, but there are two key elements to getting listed in google: on page factors and off page factors.

The key on page factors are to have your keyword in the title of your webpage, and have that key word show up between 2% and 10% in the text of the website. Make sure the copy makes sense and looks natural. Take a look at the websites on the first page, and see what they are doing. Don’t copy their titles, but emulate the structure.

The second part is to get other websites pointing to your’s with your keyword in the anchor text… you can do this by posting comments on other peoples blogs, write an article and submit it to article sites, write a press release, etc… it’s all about generating back links to your site.

There is an excellent web service called site build it that you can use — they walk you through this entire process and are very reasonably priced.

Again, this process takes time, so it shouldn’t be your sole focus, but investing say 25% of your time developing a web presence can really pay off in the long term.

There’s been a lot of hype lately, caused by the success of some people with generating dozens of leads a day from marketing on mySpace. I’ve read the books, and even started building a mySpace page, and a facebook page… but then I had a flashback to when email marketing was fresh on the scene.

Do you remember how email marketing took off, and you started receiving dozens, if not hundreds of email spam all promoting the latest pre-launch ground floor business opportunity as the best mlm of all time? Your opportunity for fortunes if you act now!

Well a lot of what I see on mySpace is headed down this exact same road.

The successful people that are hyping the social media sites build up a huge friends list by using automatic tools that request people to be friends, and of course give them a link at the same time. There is still a novelty in a friend request, even from a stranger, much like there was a novelty early on hearing “You’ve got mail…”

mySpace is hip to this and started counter measures, to filter out and shut down those sites using these automated tools,  so it will be a short lived exposure and lead generation method… at least in it’s current form, in my opinion.

Now that being said, there are millions and millions of people on mySpace and facebook, and done correctly, it is an incredible place to meet new people.  But these social sites frown on hard sells, so in each of them, the sites that will be successful promote them selves and their interests, and only do a soft sell on their business.  This is how I see it working long term.

The automated tools may still work for a few more months to build short term traffic, but long term solution gets back to meeting people and exposing them to your business in the course of time.

Remember, no matter how you do it, building an MLM business comes down to doing a few simple things, and then teaching your team to do the same thing.
